OR Tambo Sontcini Basketball Games held
Four teams from different wards took part in the OR Tambo Sontcini Basketball Games at Vosloorus Stadium on July 15.
Teams from Ward 40, 44, 95 and 107 participated at ward level of the competition and 20 players were selected to participate in the next level.
The 20 players were made up of players from local schools.
Seaparo Mohale, chairman of Vosloorus Basketball, said the aim of the games is to select 20 players to represent the province.
“From here (ward level) 20 players were selected. Those players are going to participate at regional level, then they will advance to the provincial level,” said Seaparo.
He said the provincial level players will be going to Italy and will be trained by one of the big basketball teams there.
“The name of the team is not confirmed yet,” said Seaparo.
Seaparo said he was excited to see the talent shown by the players on the day.
“Players were on top of their game today,” said Seaparo.
“You could see that they all wanted to be selected. It is very unfortunate that we needed only 20 players – not all of those who took part could be selected,” he added.
He said those who were not lucky to be selected were good players too.
