Ayanda Pre-School children and staff took to the streets around East Field in Vosloorus on June 1 and marched against child abuse.

Phindile Sishange, the principal of the school, said the march was held in line with Child Protection Week.

“This is Child Protection Week, which started on Monday, May 29. Today (June 1) marks the start of Youth Month. We had to organise this function on this day so that we could celebrate both events – Child Protection Week as well as Youth Month,” said Sishange.

She said they took Grade Rs only to the march.

“We knew that they would represent the whole school very well.

“Killing, raping and all other forms of abuse of women and children must come to an end. We say enough is enough,” said Sishange.

Nosiphiwe Ndlangamandla, one of the staff members, said women and children must be taken care of.

“Children are the future of South Africa – they must be looked after. If one takes the lives of such young people, our country will lose the future leaders,” said Ndlangamandla.

Teachers and children chanted songs about abuse and marched from the school’s premises until they stopped on the busiest road in Vosloorus – Bierman Road.
