The South African Students Congress (SASCO) in Gauteng will, on Friday, March 31, host its Right To Learn Students' Rally.

More than 10 000 students are expected to attend, to hear what’s ahead for the 2017 academic year.

The rally will take place at the Germiston Stadium from 11am to 3.30pm.

The executive mayor of Ekurhuleni, Clr Mzwandile Masina, Kenneth Barnes (SASCO Gauteng chairperson), Paul Mashatile (ANC Gauteng chairperson) and Thabo Moloja (SASCO president) are expected to speak at the event.

Gauteng SASCO provincial secretary Buthanani Goba said throughout the first quarter of the 2017 academic year, SASCO Gauteng and its structures have been visiting campuses around the province to solicit a mandate on the next course of action.

“This massive rally is expected to pave the way forward, especially following the collapse of the student convention that was meant to take place from March 17 to 19 in Midrand.”

SASCO is expected to speak on the following issues:

· Accommodation crisis

· Slow pace of higher education transformation

· TVET colleges neglect and poor infrastructure

· National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) crisis
