Meet our Miss RSA Plus-Size finalist

She said it would have been very difficult if it were not for Mbali Dhlamini, her make-up artist.

A young woman from a humble home in Kathorus is very happy to be one of the 30 ladies who are in the finals of Miss RSA Plus-Size category.

Nhlanhla Nonny Skhosana (34) said she did not believe it when she was told by her agent that her name was shortlisted to participate in the category.

She said it would have been very difficult if it were not for Mbali Dhlamini, her make-up artist.

“I grew up suffering from self-rejection. I was easily intimidated because I was made to believe that thin people are the ones who are beautiful. But Mbali came into my life and told me how beautiful I was and she helped me gain self-confidence. Since then I never looked back.

“Even at school teachers would look at me with discouraging eyes if I wanted to participate in any beauty contest. Others would even tell me that modelling is not for fat people. I felt very bad because I liked modelling with all my heart,” said Skhosana.

Skhosana was addressing a large number of business women and men at Ke-ditsilane multicultural village in Vosloorus, where a number of developing-business women gathered to exhibit their businesses on Saturday, August 27.

“When the Miss RSA Plus-Size competition opportunity availed I grabbed it with both hands. After entering the competition it took only two weeks to get a response that I was in the finals of the competition. The dilemma I had after qualifying was to find a make-up artist to help me with my looks. She did all my make-up and hair for free. Mbali goes with me everywhere I have photo shoot. She just makes sure I look beautiful. My point is, do not give up on your dreams,” said Skhosana.

Skhosana also told Kathorus businesswomen how lack of self-confidence can destroy one’s dream. “If you don’t believe in yourself and the product you are selling you won’t go anywhere in business. Trust me, I know what I am talking about. I’ve been there,” she said.
