Mpho has great plans for Katlehong netball

While many believe that netball is not a township sport, an impassioned Mpho Tolo holds the game of netball close to her heart.

KATLEHONG – Mpho, co-owner of the Katlehong Panthers Netball Club and her partner Bongani Nkosi, invited Kathorus MAIL to the Mofokeng netball courts for a three hour game of notable netball and trials.

After displaying her netball talent in the game, Mpho, went on to explain to a hall that was packed to the rafters with eager and enthusiastic young spectators, fans and curious onlookers, how she hopes to elevate netball to a higher status among young people in Katlehong.

For Mpho, it was important to get her netball message across to every single member of the captivated young audience.

“As a local resident I saw the importance of setting up a netball team since there were no active netball teams around Katlehong,” pointed out Mpho.

“When I started the concept in February, I had zero players, but today, just six months down the line, I have well over 30 players. That is why we are able to host these trials. The idea is to be able to select the best players and to determine how many of the players are committed.”

Bongani and Mpho make a formidable team.‘‘I am a sports person and I just love the game of netball. When Mpho, approached me at the beginning of the year with her plans to launch a netball team, I jumped at the opportunity to be her partner,” said Bongani.

The team’s captain Bofelo Mantsoe, said she was proud to be part of the Katlehong Panthers netball team. “I am proud and happy to be part of the team and I’ve found a platform on which I can continue to participate in the game.
