Westville seals a 6-wicket win against College

Westville Boys' High sealed a gutsy six-wicket win against Maritzburg College.

A STRONG Maritzburg College team travelled to Westville Boys’ High School on Friday morning for a day of first-class school boy cricket.

The visitors won the toss and chose to bat first. WBHS dropped costly catches in the first session of the day and College found themselves in a commanding position of 141/3 after 34 overs.

They set a strong enough platform for their lower order batters to come in and launch an attack, which they executed effectively and blitzed to 263/7 at the end of their innings.

Four of the College top order made it into the 40s, one of them pushed on and made it to a half-century milestone.

Westville Boys’ came out firing with the bat and opened with a partnership of 121/0 in 27 overs. They turned the game on its head as Zaahid Mohammed flew to a well-played 79.

WBHS found themselves needing 83 in the last 10 overs with six wickets in hand. Captain Nathan Trevethan took the team over the line with an unbeaten knock of 70* Sagel Rajakumar, came in and changed the pace of the innings with an extraordinary running between the wickets and ended the game with 39* not out.
