Pinetown collapsing Telkom poles pose danger

Residents said they have reported the matter for almost a year and they now fear that the two poles will fall and injure someone.

PINETOWN residents have been trying for almost a year to report two Telkom telephone poles that are on the verge of collapsing in Oribi Crescent. The hanging poles are presenting a growing safety risk for pedestrians as well as motorists.

A resident, Brian David said they have run out of options as they have done all they could by following correct procedures to report the matter.

After failing to get a response or assistance, David said they turned to the ward councillor and the eThekwini Municipality for help but unfortunately he was told that there is nothing the City could do as Telkom is a private company.

The residents’ biggest fear now is that the poles will fall and injure someone.

“We have a preschool and a primary school very near, the road is used mostly by children coming from or going to school.

David said they appeal to Telkom to sort out this matter as they do not know what next step to take. “We try to sort out other issues such as overgrown verges but this is out of our control, out neighbourhood watch can only do so much.”

The Highway Mail tried to obtain a response from Telkom but did not receive a comment at the time this article went to print.
