Road travelling with children and pets? Here are some tips

Getting away with your family is a great way to bond. Try these tips for a stress free trip:

Road trips are a great way to bond with family and friends and creating new memories. However, travelling with kids and pets can be challenging. Kids often get restless during a road trip, while pets may get anxious, depending on how familiar they are with extended periods of travelling.

Here are some quick tips for those wholesome family trips:

Pack snacks for your kids

Rest stops on road trips can be few and far between, so make sure you’ve packed in some healthy snacks for the little ones if they get hungry between stops. It’s also a good idea to avoid snacks, such as dairy, which may upset the tummies of your little ones and result in sudden stops in the middle of nowhere!

Make regular stops for your pets

Try to make regular stops for your pets to stretch for a few minutes after being cooped up in the backseat for hours. This will also make the trip more exciting for them.

Allow your kids to take naps throughout the trip

There are few people crankier than a little one who has missed nap time. So if they fall asleep along the way, turn down the music and avoid waking them up to ensure they get proper rest and wake up feeling refreshed. Kids need plenty of rest and disrupting their sleep is never a good idea if you want to avoid dealing with a miserable toddler which can make the drive feel even longer.

Make sure your accommodation facility is pet-friendly

In simple terms, be organised – make sure your hotel or guest house accommodates your pets. There are few things worse than arriving at your guesthouse or hotel, only to find out that pets are not allowed. Do not assume that the facility is pet-friendly, make sure of this when making your bookings.

Stock up on water

Hydration is very important – for your kids, your pets and you! Make sure you stock up on sufficient water to last the whole trip. Don’t forget to pack your pets’ drinking dish for convenience. You can make quick stops for them to hydrate while you stretch your legs.

Travelling with your family to your desired holiday location should be more exciting than stressful. Make it a pleasant trip by incorporating the tips listed above in your trip planning. Happy travelling!
