Quick fixes that’ll freshen up your home

If the décor in your home is looking a little tired, here are some simple updates you can do in a weekend.

1. HANG A MIRROR

Mirror is one of the most versatile and effective decorating tools. It can create a sense of space, add glamour and reflect light and beautiful views. Mirrors are available in loads of different sizes and designs. Just make sure that the one you choose is in proportion to the location. For more impact you could use two matching ones as in this hallway. Décor by Block & Chisel.

2. CREATE A NEW BEDSIDE TABLESCAPE

Give your bed more emphasis by hanging pictures above the bedside pedestal. Invest in new lamps with a classic shape and arrange books and magazines you’ve been planning to read. And don’t forget a vase of fresh flowers. Décor by White on White Interiors.

3. INTRODUCE NEW SIDE TABLES

Replace heavy side tables with a trio of nesting tables in a contemporary design. They are far more versatile especially as they can be moved around depending on the occasion.

4. PAINT IT WHITE

Give vintage pieces a brand-new look as Carli Prinsloo did here with a coat of white paint. This antique ball and claw sideboard looked too dark and heavy in her French-style house but now with a white finish, it fits right in. Leaving the top dark provides just the right amount of contrast.

5. REPLACE THE SCATTER CUSHIONS

If you stick to white bedlinen you can change the look of your bedroom every season just by bringing in new scatter cushions in patterns and colours that appeal to you; fresh blues for summer and richer colours for winter. Carry this through to the ottoman at the bottom of the bed. Décor by K&R Design Consultants.
