How to liven up your skin in winter

Is winter leaving your skin dry, flaky and lifeless? Here's how you can combat it:

Winter can often leave your skin looking dry and dull. Although we’re almost out of the cold season, there are still a few more weeks to endure. Taking care of your skin during winter is important to prevent any dryness and damage. Skin that is well looked after appears rejuvenated, smooth and supple. Here’s how you can make sure your skin is full of life:

1. Hydrate

Drinking a lot of water is the first step to ensuring that your skin looks healthy. Water helps the body release toxins and with the skin being the largest organ in the body, this highlights the importance of hydration in achieving a radiant look. Adequate hydration also leads to fewer wrinkles, smaller pores, tighter skin and a balanced pH.

2. Use a serum

Face serums are great for dry skin because they add extra hydration. Face serums also help with improving skin texture, by reducing pore size, blackheads and fine lines. If you want your skin to glow and look youthful, you should definitely add a face serum into your skincare routine.

3. Wear sunscreen

The words ‘sunscreen’ and ‘winter’ may seem like opposites, but they actually fit together. Just because you’re exposed to less sun, it doesn’t mean that you can get away without wearing any sunscreen. The fact is the sun’s rays permeate through clouds, meaning you’re still exposed to UV rays even when the sun isn’t visibly shining. Wearing sunscreen will prevent aging, dry skin as well as skin cancer.

4. Exfoliate

Exfoliation helps you remove dead skin cells from your skin. This skin treatment is done by rubbing a granular substance on the skin, or through use of a chemical peel or exfoliation tool. Exfoliating your skin will allow for new, healthy skin cells to grow, which stimulates your skin and makes it radiant.

5. Use face masks

Face masks are rich in antioxidants and ingredients that are hydrating and good for the skin. Using a face mask at least once a week will ensure that your skin receives extra hydration, which reduces the chances of your skin looking dry and dull.
