Experience romance in the Zulu Kingdom this Valentine’s Day

KZN is a destination that caters to everyone, "from the budget conscious to those that have bulging wallets."

TO help those who want to fire Cupid’s arrow to win love and affection, Tourism KwaZulu-Natal (TKZN) has put together a list of things to do on 14 February.

Phindile Makwakwa, the acting chief executive officer of TKZN, said, “Valentine’s Day is one of our key tourism drivers during this time of the year.

“After the kids have gone back to school, couples are often on the lookout for a short romantic holiday to reconnect and have some personal time together away from the hustle and bustle of work and family commitment.

“As KZN, we have plenty of establishments that can deliver a world-class tourism experience for those couples.

“We are a destination that caters for everyone, from the budget conscious to those that have bulging wallets; from young couples looking for adventure to more mature ones looking for easy-going experiences.”

 

The Midlands Meander 

With its ‘English countryside feel’  the Midlands Meander is a perfect location for lovestruck couples. The route is packed with diverse dining options, offering everything from laid-back farm-style cuisine to fine dining in stunning, scenic locations.

There is also a variety of places to visit and see including Karkloof Falls, Beacon Hill, and a selection of nature reserves.

Couples can also visit different studios or workshops of great craftspeople where you can purchase sentimental trinkets for the love of your life.

The Nelson Mandela Capture site in Howic

Tata Madiba captured the hearts of many South Africans.

Celebrate his legacy on Valentine’s Day  at this bucket-list-destination, which is surrounded by gorgeous scenery.

The significant sculpture made up of 50 steel columns between 6 and 9.5 metres high and forms an image of Nelson Mandela from a certain vantage point is also the perfect location for beautiful photos.

Lake St Lucia

Intimate dinners, candles and petal strewn baths in the bush – the KwaZulu-Natal lodges know just what to do when it comes to making your romantic getaway dreams for Valentine’s Day come true.

There are many hideaway retreats on the Elephant Coast. These lodges provide a romantic retreat combined with a range of features, facilities and activities.

 

The Drakensberg

If you want to enjoy blissful peace and quiet with your partner the Drakenberg is the place to be.

Fishing, guided walks, horse rides and the biggest and best sandstone caves in southern Africa are just some of the attractions the tranquil ‘Berg has to offer.

Durban beachfront 

Whether you are taking a stroll or cycling along the Durban Beachfront (which spans six kilometres) the view of the Indian Ocean is hard to beat.

In addition to Durban’s famous Golden Mile is the new beachfront promenade extension, which stretches from uShaka Marine World to the Durban Harbour.

The delightful Mini Town will also serve as a location for cute photos, and let’s not forget the Sunken Gardens.

Moses Mabhida Stadium

Not only does the iconic stadium provide a prefect location for photos, but it also boasts the famous Big Swing. If you and your partner are feeling brave and are looking for an experience of a lifetime to remember Valentine’s Day 2020 by, this is just the thing for you

 

The Shongweni Dam

Shongweni Dam and game reserve is the perfect spot for couples to relax and enjoy spectacular natural surroundings. You can take your own picnic, and sit and while away the time or go for a scenic walk.

If you want to be a bit more active than that, there are game drives, rock climbing, abseiling, mountain bike rides or guided canoe journeys.
