Flutter into spring with butterfly talk

Take part in a talk at the Springside Nature Reserve with the talented Lindsay Gray and Steve Woodhall.

CELEBRATE spring with the Hillcrest Conservancy by taking part in an informative and exciting talk by experts Lindsay Gray and Steve Woodhall at the Springside Nature Reserve on Sunday, 3 November from 9am.

Enjoy a welcoming cuppa with eats before Lindsay Gray kicks off her talk, Trying to imitate a grassland within a residential garden. The talk will also include bits on interesting wildflowers and bulbs.

Lindsay Gray is the principal of The School of Garden Design and has trained in garden design, journalism and photography. She has authored and co-authored A Sense of Space: The Gardens of Jan Blok and Making Sense of Garden Design. Recently, Lindsay and Steve wrote the book Attracting Butterflies to your Garden that includes several gardens around South Africa, including a total revamp of Steve’s own garden to attract more butterfly species.

Steve will then talk about Butterflies of the Highway area that will be followed by a guided walk to see the wildflowers and butterflies in Hillcrest’s beautiful Springside Nature Reserve.

Steve is a butterfly expert and photographer who began watching and collecting butterflies at an early age.

He is a past-president of the Lepidopterists’ Society of Africa and has contributed to and authored several books, including the Field Guide to Butterflies of South Africa, What’s that Butterfly?, Attracting Butterflies to your Garden and played a role in creating the handy Butterfly App for phones and tablets.
