Music with a view at White Mountain

Now in its 14th year, the annual White Mountain Festival is coming up from 26 to 29 September.

WITH just days to go, the countdown to this year’s White Mountain Festival has well and truly begun!

Now in its 14th year, the annual White Mountain Festival is coming up from 26 to 29 September and is an ideal opportunity to get away from it all and unwind in a picture-perfect setting while enjoying a three-day line-up of some of the best acoustic acts in the country.

Widely regarded as one of the best live acts in the country, Cape Town’s Crimson House will bring their unique brand of gypsy jungle music to this year’s White Mountain Festival. Front man, Riaan Smit. PHOTO: Supplied

Known for its intimate, relaxed atmosphere, the festival is held at White Mountain Lodge in the foothills of the Giant’s Castle Nature Reserve, only 185km from Durban and just 28km off the N3 on tarred roads.

Included on the bill are the likes of Crimson House, Zebra, Simpl3 Stori3s, Indie Dog, Ross Charles (from The Voice), Pedro Barbosa, Black Harbour, Sea of Green, The Fishwives, Roarke Angelbright, Tanner Wareham and The Carmen Rodrigues Band.

Festival-goers can also look forward to vibrant arts and crafts, a wide variety of food and drink outlets, plus loads of outdoor activities for the whole family.

These include everything from a 100m zip line to a leisurely dip in the pool, as well as hikes, fishing and boating on the dam, plus fun stuff (like scavenger hunts) for the kids. And that’s not forgetting the lodge’s spacious grounds and charming old stone pub (with satellite TV and late-night live music), which add another dimension to the usual festival experience!

This year also sees the introduction of a new wellness area, offering free morning and sunset yoga classes on the banks of the dam, reflexology and various other beauty, health and massage therapies.

Aside from general camping, which is included in the ticket price, there is also the option of booking into a stylish on-site ‘tent hotel’, offering a relaxing, hassle-free camping experience with all the comforts of home. Think spacious walk-in tents, comfy beds, linen, towels, chairs, tables and hot showers.

On the food front, expect everything from freshly baked paninis and pizzas to lamb roasts, quality fast foods, authentic vegetarian and Indian fare, seafood, Belgian waffles, soft serve ice cream, smoothies and speciality coffees.

Falling within the school holidays, this gem of a festival is not to be missed!

Tickets are available online at www.quicket.co.za or the festival gate.
