PJ Powers heads up the Splashy Fen legends stage

The 30th edition of the Splashy Fen Music Festival takes place in the rolling foothills of beautiful Underberg, over the Easter long-weekend from Thursday, 18 to Monday the 22 April.

SPLASHY Fenners can look forward to another historical performance at this year’s Splashy Fen Music Festival, as the Legends of the Fen showcase is set to entertain and excite the crowds with its diverse and crowd-pleasing line-up.

Don Clarke, convener of the Legends of the Fen show, with his partner Dicky Roberts, has been crafting, managing and hosting the popular Legends showcase for three successive years. Legends of the Fen provides a casually creative platform for those who once played to the crowds at festivals long gone.

Paying tribute to 30 years of great quality South African music, it is a fitting tribute to those who have helped build the iconic festival into what it is today – particularly as the festival celebrates its Pearl Anniversary this Easter.

Legends line-up

The showcase, starting at 12pm on Sunday, 21 April, opens with a solo set from the legendary and mercurial Jack Mantis.

He will be followed by ‘Legend in the Making’, a new feature that celebrates younger, greener artists on the rise. This year, the talented Rorke will entertain the crowds with his wizard guitar skills and song writing abilities.

Needing no introduction, Roly Struckmeyer and his three-piece band will take to the stage, followed by the ubiquitous and fabulous Hairy Legged Lentil Eaters who have become something of an institution at Splashy Fen – with their quirky act and wonderful music, loved by all.

After the hairy boys, we introduce The Meditators – an amazing reggae band from Durban who are fast growing their enormous reputation with a mesmerising brand of roots reggae.

Finally, our Coup de Gras, Powers herself!

More than a legend on the stage, PJ is a monumental South African icon who stands alongside the stalwarts like Mango Groove and Johnny Clegg.
