Fabulous reads – Royal tragedy unlocked

Book review - The Queens of Fennbirn by Kendare Blake.

The Queens of Fennbirn (Three Dark Crowns 0.5), Kendare Blake, Pan Macmillan, ISBN: 9781509880614

TAKE a step back in time with the three queens and uncover their past, from their birth to their claiming ceremonies, and shortly thereafter, in this highly anticipated novella.

You can’t be faulted for thinking that travelling back in time, knowing what you already know, couldn’t possibly add to the story in any way

Those were my exact thoughts as well. But it was truly wonderful to not only be back in the world of Fennbirn, but to uncover the darker secrets hidden in plain sight.

While the characters are much younger, their mannerisms and traits you are used to reading about remain. It is intriguing to watch them grow into themselves and tackle the challenges that would help mould them into the cast we have come to love.

The second half of the book tackles the Oracle Queen, Elsabet, and her horror story. It is a part of history that has only been touched on in the main story. Believe me when I say that not everything is as it seems.

The tales told are equally as dark as its predecessors and proves the author is not afraid to hold back any punches.

Newcomers, do not read this book until you have read the first two books. If you are a fan of the Three Dark Crowns series, this book is a must-read!
