Fabulous reads – Get ready for tears with poignant novel

Book review - Little Big Man by Katy Regan.

Little Big Man, Katy Regan, Pan Macmillan, ISBN: 9781509837380

FAIR warning. If you are going to read Katy Regan’s Little Big Man be sure to keep a box of tissues nearby. You are guaranteed to shed a tear or two.

This is a sweet and heart-warming tale of a 10-year-old boy, Zack who has been made to believe that his father, Liam had abandoned him and his mother before he was born, however, after his mother, Juliet drunkenly admits one night that Liam was the love of her life, he sets off on a mission track down the father he has never known in the hopes of giving his mother a second chance at love.

At the same time his mother embarks on her own mission – ‘Get Zack Happy’ – after she learns that her big-hearted and brainy boy, who is also slightly overweight, is being teased mercilessly at school.

The novel tackles some pretty serious issues, such as bullying, alcoholism, grief, lies, secrets, and ultimately love and sacrifice.

You won’t be able to resist falling in love with the flawed, vulnerable and raw characters.

With each chapter, Zack, Juliet and grandad, Mick take turns to pull you into their individual worlds, and slowly the real reason behind Liam’s sudden ‘disappearance’ unfolds.
