Dance to tell a story

Each participating school or dance academy submits one or two dance items with original choreography, not exceeding six minutes in length.

WITH 300 participating dancers from 24 different dance groups across KZN, Dance@Kearsney promises to be a spectacular event.

An array of dance styles will be incorporated, ranging from Broadway and ballet, to hip-hop and contemporary.

The dance event is part of Culture@Kearsney, a year-long programme of events designed to provide a platform from which teachers and learners can show their talents and creativity in fine and performing arts.

Participating high schools and dance studios are Curro, Durban Girls’ High, Eden College, Howick High, Kearsney College, Maris Stella, Reddam Umhlanga, Russell High, St John’s, St Mary’s, Thomas More and Westville Girls’ High, as well as Chelsea Blair, Dance Academy, Danz-It Contemp, Maritzburg College Movement, Slangspruit Super Troupers and TWC Contemp.

A story unfolds through dance, which can be expressed in any number of dance forms.

The event runs over three nights, with different groups performing each night. beginning this Wednesday (22 August) and running through to Friday (24th). Performances start at 7pm and there is no interval. A tuck shop will be open before the start.

Tickets are available from Computicket at R30 for adults and R20 for learners, with a limited number on sale at the door.
