Uproot botanic gardens’ history

Prof. Donal McCracken, an absolutely delightful speaker, will share his knowledge on the history of the Durban Botanic Gardens.

THE Durban and Coastal Branch of the Genealogical Society of South Africa will meet on Saturday, 14 July from 2pm at the Family History Centre at the Church of the Latter Day Saints on Montgomery Lane in the Berea.

Prof. Donal McCracken will talk on Nuts of the Durban Botanic Gardens: Victorian eccentrics.

The Durban Botanic Gardens is Durban’s oldest public institution and Africa’s oldest surviving botanical gardens.

“It has a wonderful story to tell, and no doubt has observed many shenanigans and events surrounding the people who crossed its lawns,” said the society’s secretary, Gail Richards.
