Fabulous reads – Contemporary romance will set your soul ablaze

Book review - A Life Made of Lava by Lissa Del.

A Life Made of Lava, Lissa Del (Melissa Delport), e-book

MY single worry when I started this book was not that I would Kim Kardashian ugly cry, but that I wouldn’t connect with the characters on a fundamental level, due to my single, childless self.

Let me put your mind at ease – you will form strong bonds with the characters and are sure to have leaky-eye syndrome more than once before the end.

Evie is a strong-willed, down-to-earth, no-nonsense mom and is absolutely and irrevocably adored by her three children and her husband, Nick.

Her time on this earth is coming to a close as she faces her third battle with cancer – a fight she knows she will not be able to win.

She enlists a nanny to help around the home with her children on the days where the pain becomes too much to bear, even cooking a meal takes its toll on the doting mother.

Her eldest child, Jesse, can tell something is wrong and has thrown up a wall of anger to protect himself from the the tides of pain ready to rush forward.

Even knowing the outcome of the story from the get-go you would think there would be no surprises along the way.

There are. You will absolutely fall in love with Evie, her delightful family, friends and even the nanny.

There is no black and white here, the lines will become blurred as you enter grey territory and picking sides isn’t nearly as simple as one would think.

A Life Made of Lava has a wonderful level of depth, a touch of humour and a punch-in-the-gut realness that is sure to connect with many readers, whether you are a fan of contemporary romance of not.
