Great #Splashy2018, muddy boots and all

Festival directors thirlled by the success of this year's festival.

THIS year’s Splashy Fen was, by all accounts, a great success and the experience thoroughly enjoyed.

The 7 000 happy campers have enjoyed a long weekend of family activities, great entertainment, local and international music acts and favourable weather. With a few hours of rain on Saturday afternoon, muddy gumboots have been a common sight, but spirits have not been dampened.

Fans were treated to an entertaining set on Saturday night by international artists, Bowling for Soup.

The band really engaged with the crowd and sang some of their favourites including 1985 and a cover of Stacey’s Mom; an original song by Fountains of Wayne, often attributed to the band.

Sunday the 1st of April saw the Splashy Fen Legend’s Jam taking place at the Acoustic Stage, where artists who have performed for more than 10 years got together to entertain fans this Easter.

“2018 has been an amazing year for us,” said Stu Berry, festival director.

“We have reached a number that is comfortable on the Splashy Fen site. Capping pre-sold tickets at 7 000 helps us to ensure that the experience that person 1 has, is the same experience that person 7000 has. Creating, and maintaining a quality Splashy experience is very, very important to us.”

Creative director, Andrew Van Rensburg, is very pleased with how well the site has held up.

“For the past two years we have been spoilt with impeccable weather. In 2017 we had an hour of rain, and that was it. So, this year has been a good test for us to gauge how well our site handles under the pressure of Drakensberg rain showers. We also brought in about 10 tonnes of wood chips, which has been beneficial in reducing mud and mess in high traffic areas.”
