Fabulous reads – Journey to a galaxy far, far away

Book review - Rogue One: A Star Wars Story by Alexander Freed.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Alexander Freed, Penguin Random House, ISBN: 9781780894799

FULL disclosure: I am not, I repeat, I am not a fan of Star Wars.

But there was something about this movie-to-book tie in that had me gravitating towards it.

Contrary to the above statement, I thoroughly enjoyed the Rogue One movie.

The characters and the storyline felt meatier than its predecessors.

The actors made me feel something when I watched them on screen and I felt emotionally involved, way more so than when Darth Vader declared he was Luke’s father (spoiler alert?).

The book is literally like watching the movie. You can even watch it play out in your mind as you skim through its pages.

One plus side to the book is that you have the opportunity to climb inside the character’s heads and see their motivation behind their choices during specific scenes.

It definitely answered a few of the questions I raised when watching the international blockbuster.

There are also a few excerpts in the form of “supplemental data”, or as I like to call them, e-mails, between a few of the supporting characters. These give a deeper insight into the Rebellion before it took on the Death Star.

It’s a definite for Star Wars fans and a great introduction for newcomers wanting a slice of a galaxy far, far away.
