Sunday Jazz Sundowners with Asanda Mqiki

Mqiki has shared the stage with the likes of artists such as The Soil, Sibongile Khumalo and Khaya Mahlangu.

THE BAT Centre’s second session of Sunday Jazz Sundowners brings you a hard hitting and energetic musician – Asanda Mqiki together with her band members on Sunday, 11 February.

Singer-songwriter Asanda is one of those versatile rising voices. With a style of music that complements her love for jazz and R&B, Mqiki’s soulful voice reflects great maturity and has captivated audiences across the country.

Around 2011, she became the lead vocalist in the band Take Note, which was later booked to play at the Standard Band Joy of Jazz Festival. Mqiki has subsequently shared stages with the likes of artists such as The Soil, Sibongile Khumalo and Khaya Mahlangu.

Mqiki performed for consecutive years at the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown since 2014, and was awarded the prestigious Standard Bank Gold Ovation award in 2015. Her band consists of Qaqambile Qingana – 2nd keys, Mthokozisi Abuzz – 1st keys, Kamva Goba – percussion , Grant Allison – bass guitar , Asanda Mqiki – lead vocals, Thoba Goba – drums and Joash David Soobramoney – tenor sax.

As usual, the jam session will start after the Sunday Jazz Sundowners performance. For those who want to perform at the jam session, RSVP to the MC of the day.

Entrance is free and the show starts at 3pm.
