Where there’s a will there’s an audition

Directing the play is Jill Sysum who has performed in and directed many shows for Westville Theatre Club over the years as well as walking the boards of Blank Canvas Productions.

WESTVILLE Theatre Club will hold auditions for its next production, Where There’s a Will by Ian Hornby on Saturday, 20 January at 2pm, Monday, 22 January at 7pm or Tuesday 23 January at 7pm at Westville Theatre Club (adjacent to Westville Swimming Pool).

A comedy drama with a deadly theme and a twist in the tale, the cast comprises four female and four male characters: Linda Parkinson, lady of the house, age 35 and up; Derek Parkinson, Linda’s husband, age 35 and up; Mary, their housekeeper, age 45-55 (can be younger or older), the vicar; Colin Parkinson, Derek’s brother, age 35 and up; Carol Hargreaves, Linda’s sister – age 35 and up, Julie, a friend and Peter, Julie’s husband.

The ages of the characters are flexible – husbands and wives to be of similar ages and the siblings to be of similar ages.

The vicar can be youthful to middle age to elderly, as can be the housekeeper.

Directing the play is Jill Sysum who has performed in and directed many shows for Westville Theatre Club over the years as well as walking the boards of Blank Canvas Productions.

Jill started out on stage in her teens and has a working knowledge of all aspects of theatre.

“Theatre is my passion and I hope to inspire my cast with the thrill of theatre and all its traditions and disciplines,” said Jill.

Those auditioning are encouraged to prepare a brief monologue or a short reading which will showcase their character, failing which a few pieces will be available to be used as well.

Rehearsals will be held every Monday and Thursday evening at Westville Theatre Club starting 1 February.

Show dates are 11 to 21 April.
