Magical new panto stirs in comedy flavour

The Westville Theatre Club's latest production is based on the acclaimed, Cinderella story.

WESTVILLE Theatre Club will leave you spellbound with its enchanting end-of-year panto, Cinder-Ella and her Fella.

Mervin Lowe, the producer and director of 2015’s Sleeping Beauty in 21st Century and 2016’s Heroes and Friends – the Sort of Real Adventures of Robin Hood, will be taking the reins in this charming production.

Thrown into the show’s cauldron is Ella, a pretty damsel that is made to work like a slave around the house, chuck in her soccer mad, stable-hand friend to add a bit of comfort to her life.

Stir in a wicked step-mother and two not-so-pretty step-sisters.

Add a dashing a prince, who doesn’t follow protocol and drop in his sidekick. For a hint of flavour, toss in the castle staff, the king and queen, heralds, the chamberlain, a few chorus girl, a shoe salesman, Ella’s father, a few mice, a mirror, a horse and a pumpkin.

The recipe still needs something to pull it all together, that will come in the form of the on-the-ball fairy godmother. The musical numbers, accompanied by a live band, are from 60s to current hits and shows will run from Thursday, 30 November to Sunday, 3 December and from Wednesday, 6 to Saturday, 9 December.

All shows will be staged at the Westville Theatre Club (adjacent to Westville Swimming Pool) and doors will open at 7pm and the show will start at 7.30pm. Matinees are on Saturday, 2 December and Sunday, 3 December and doors open at 1.30 pm with curtains going up at 2pm. There is no evening show on Sunday, 3 December.

Tickets are R80 for all shows and if you book a table of eight, you only have to pay for seven. The tickets for matinees are R50 for students and pensioners.
