Durban dancers to showcase their skills

The select top 67 dance groups will showcase their nominated routines at the Durban Dance Youth Awards for winners to be announced on the night.

DON’T miss the second annual Durban Dance Youth Awards at the Playhouse Drama Theatre on Friday, 29 September at 7pm.

This award ceremony red carpet event is a platform of opportunity for dance excellence to be recognised and celebrated in the province.

Throughout the year a team of veteran dancers watched close to 396 performances from 12 different dance festivals and productions around KZN and selected performances that were outstanding in creative presentations, choreography and most memorable dance routines nominated for the excellence showcased.

Adjudicators managed to nominate the top 67 performances based on a criteria where the groups will showcase their nominated routines at the Durban Dance Youth Awards for winners to be announced on the night.

Categories include best junior, senior and emerging professional groups and also solos, duets and trios from nominees like Add Flatfoot, Dance Movement, Springwood, KZN Dance Academy, Durban Dance Unlimited, BeatBreakerz and many other dance schools, crews, in Durban. Domaines School of Dancing from PMB has also being nominated.

BeatBreakerz from the Westville and Pinetown area are thrilled to be nominated for a second year in a row and this group with their strong technical and creative skills in hip hop and contemporary are tipped to be strong contenders this year.

They are nominated in the most outstanding advance junior group and professional group.

Group leader and choreographer Keegan Barnes said: “It’s so awesome to be apart of such an event and this will help grow and sustain dance in KZN.”

The event will be hosted by Durban actor Musa Ntuli and adjudication by Alison Bain and Janine Bennewith. Tickets range from R140 to R180 and are available through Computicket or any Shoprite Checkers store.
