Fabulous reads – Bonkers book creates reading fun

Book review - The Cat in the Hat by Dr Seuss.

The Cat in the Hat (60th Birthday Edition), Dr Seuss, Jonathan Ball Publishers, ISBN: 9780 0082 19611

SOME of the most memorable lines from children’s books come from the legend that is the Dr-not doctor-Seuss.

The one that sticks quite clearly in my mind is none other than, “I do not like green eggs and ham. I do not like them, Sam-I-am.”

His blissful childhood poems have helped countless children learn to read, and enjoy doing so at the same time.

The 60th birthday edition is a gorgeous new version of the classic book with sleeker print and cover while keeping the original cartoon drawings that children across generations have come to enjoy.

The book follows the adventures of two siblings who are trapped in their house on a wet and rainy day.

The excitement only really begins when The Cat In the Hat shows up at their door uninvited with a slew of fun things planned for them to do.

As you can well imagine, nothing goes as planned and the house is soon in a complete mess – and the children’s mother is about to arrive home. I guess you are just going to have to read the book for yourself to find out the cliff-hanger ending.

I may be an adult, but it never hurt anyone to have a quick stroll down memory lane and reminisce over years gone by, when you were still learning to read and pronounce words.

Dr Seuss made this fun with his short little rhymes and the zaniest of stories. On another note, having read the book again, I have to applaud the writers who created an entire movie from this 60-page book.

Bravo to you and a round of applause to the wonderful Dr Seuss!
