Fabulous reads – Boredom may overtake you

Book review - Tender Earth by Sita Brahmachari

Tender Earth, Sita Brahmachari, Pan Macmillan, ISBN: 9781509812509

SITA Brahmachari is a lesser known author from North London, her most popular book to date being Artichoke Hearts.

Her publications focus on a wide variety of societal issues but the common threads seem to be diversity, acceptance and personal growth.

Profound topics for young readers written into inspiring stories with likeable characters.

Tender Earth is about young Laila Levenson, the youngest of three siblings.

Laila is on the cusp of beginning secondary school and is learning the hard lesson of standing on her own two feet as her older siblings have now left home.

As she prepares to begin this new and challenging era in her life, she discovers her grandmothers Protest Book.

The book is paramount to Laila’s story as it plants the seeds of self-discovery. Laila has decided to follow in her activist grandmother’s footsteps.

There is a strong political strain featured in this book that young readers could learn a great deal from.

Tender Earth is an interesting read but would probably be enjoyed by a very specific genre lover: Young politicians for example?

It is well written but is a slightly boring read.
