All aboard for local production

The show consists of three one act plays and are filled with humour sure to have you and your friends in stitches.

MAKE sure to pre-book your tickets for the Westville Theatre Club’s fabulous new show, Get on the Greyvy Stein, as it will only be staged for a few days.

The performances are on 27 to 29 April and 4 to 6 May and are staged in three one act plays. It was written by South African scriptwriter, Hennie Greyvenstein and he described The Wine Steward, The Golf Lesson and The Ending as fun, fast and he guaranteed that audiences will be laughing in their seats.

Each play has a different director and the cast is made up of a talented group of new and older members. The evening takes the form of a mini one act play festival being a pre-cursor to a larger festival to be held in 2018.

“The idea is to give patrons and members a taste of what the festival will be about and hopefully attract some new directors to try their hand at directing a one act play next year,” said Dorothy O’Neill of the Westville Theatre Club.

Doors will open at 7.30pm and curtains will go up at 8pm. Patrons are reminded to bring their own food and drink.

Behind the curtain

The Westville Theatre Club is a community of amateur theatre club members and has been an active part of the Highway community for 51 years. The team are friendly and passionate about promoting all aspects of theatre and the club is renowned for its musical reviews and plays.

It provides a platform to explore and develop talent on and off stage and members become skilled in the art of acting, singing, producing, directing, lighting, sound, costumes, back stage and set construction.

“Its stage has been the beginning for many a budding artist who has gone on to do bigger things,” said Dorothy.

The little theatre, located alongside the Westville Swimming Pool, was built by club members in 1972 and is a non-profit organisation and a percentage of profits from shows go to local charities.
