JUDGING the book by its cover alone, I knew that I was going to thoroughly enjoy this book and that I would find it hilarious. Or maybe I’m just a complete sucker for creepy looking, smiling raccoons. I am not one for non-fiction, biographies or memoirs but truly am glad to have read this particular slice of awesome.
It was in the Series of Unfortunate Disclaimers, five pages before the book even begins, that I found myself literally laughing out loud, with tears in my eyes. This is something I never thought was possible. Jenny Lawson definitely knows how to entertain.
Her memoir is dotted with hilarious stories of her childhood and other rather bizarre situations she finds herself in her adult life.
Not everything is as easy breezy in her life. Jenny openly admits to suffering from various mental illnesses and a slew of other disorders. I salute and applaud her bravery. It’s not only about the dark places she visits when anxiety and depression kick in, but how she is able to pull through and tackle another day.
This book is golden and is something that needs to be shared rather than added to a shelf. It needs to pass hands and have it’s light shine into someone else’s life. If anything, Furiously Happy has taught me that it is okay to not be okay and to be who you are, and to be that person with pride.
It is hilarious, thought provoking and absolutely perfect in every single way. I will definitely be backtracking to her first book, Let’s Pretend this Never Happened, if only to find out why she was digging up a corpse in her backyard. Or something along those lines.
