To Catch A Killer, Nele Neuhaus, Pan Macmillan, ISBN: 978 0 4472 9581 5

THE latest offering by Neuhaus is the seventh installment of the Bodenstein and Kirchoff detective series and it delivers as much thrill and suspense as the previous crime novels.

Pia Kirchoff is just one day away from departing for her secret honeymoon when two seemingly random and public shootings rock Frankfurt. The time crunch is on as there are no obvious links to the victims and when the third shooting occurs, the pressure mounts. The victims aren’t the key at all – it is their loved ones who are the true targets and the intention is to punish. As the body count rises, Pia and her leading officer, Oliver Bodenstein, follow the clues and web of intricate cover ups to find the killer. During this intense read, they also uncover a well-veiled ?” that could threaten the population of Germany.

It is a fantastic holiday read as there are strong and likeable characters, while the writer sets a fast pace and keeps you on the edge of your seat. You will have a hard time putting it down before the culprit is caught and justice is finally served. It also offers up a dark look into human nature, revenge and vengeance. In a nutshell it is a complex, tightly packed mystery that will keep you reading until the early hours of the morning.

While it can be read as a standalone novel, the main character’s personal lives have definitely progressed since the first book and to have a full scope of them it may be a good idea to start at the beginning of the series.
