Fabulous reads – Little book packs explosive punch

Book review - The Trial by James Patterson and Maxine Paetro.

The Trial (Women’s Murder Club #15.5), James Patterson with Maxine Paetro, Penguin Random House, ISBN: 9781786530257

THE TV show, even though it only aired for one season before it was axed, continues to live on in my mind as an intriguing and well cast series that highlighted women empowerment. The characters and the story line would have anyone hooked and the lead actress, Angie Harmon, who took on the role of detective Lindsay Boxer, played the role with complete finesse.

Having never read a single line from any of the 15 books that have come before The Trial, when the opportunity arose for me to read it, I grabbed it with both hands.

Detective Lindsay Boxer finds herself up against a powerful drug lord with an even stronger reach from inside his jail cell. He creates chaos and drama throughout central San Francisco and turns Lindsay’s whole world in on itself as she worries for the safety of her daughter. The books follow the lives of four women, inspector Lindsay Boxer, deputy district attorney, Jill Bernhardt, Dr Clair Washburn and reporter, Cindy Thomas, who form the Women’s Murder Club. In the full titles, the group works intrinsically to solve each crime that comes their way. In the Bookshots version, Lindsay dominates the pages and the other three characters play minor roles.

This novel, short as it may be, packs a real punch and will have any reader gripped from the get go. The 114 pages of the book are bursting with action and is a cleverly thought out plot twist that will leave you wanting more.
