Fabulous reads – Fantasy novel overflows with magical adventure

Book review - The Inquisition (Summoner #2) by Taran Matharu.

WHEN this book landed on my desk, I may have squealed with utter delight as the first book, The Novice, was published more than a year ago and concluded with a shocking cliffhanger. The second book in the Summoner series picks up a year after the brutal Tournament and Fletcher, the protagonist, is faced with a trial at the hands of the Inquisition. He, along with his friends from Vocans, are sent on a perilous mission that will take them deep into the orc jungles in an attempt to eliminate the threat of an uprising.

The first few chapters of the book are set during a trial and while it does well to remind readers of the events from the previous books and highlight important information about a few of the lead characters, it dramatically slowed the pace of the book. However, once the team set out on their journey into the dangerous unknown, the book transforms into an action-packed thrill ride that is filled with deception, magic creatures and suspense.

For those who are fans of the magic from Harry Potter and the exciting journeys in the Percy Jackson series, this book is a definite must-read.
