Fabulous reads – Gripping novel brims with suspense

Book review - Baby Doll by Hollie Overton.

Baby Doll, Hollie Overton, Penguin Random House, ISBN: 9781780895079

YOUR life can change in a second. One wrong decision could lead you on a dark and twisted path.

Lily is abducted as a teen and kept as a play thing for three thousand one hundred and ten days. She was the victim of sexual, physical and mental abuse and rape but one night her captor makes a mistake. A mistake that will not only cost him his secret but grant Lily her freedom.

After eight years of being kept underground, Lily flees with her daughter, Sky. With her child clutched to her chest, she runs. Runs until her lungs give out. Runs towards the place she thinks she will feel safe – home. She hopes to find the life she lost but is only greeted by the sad reality that the world stops for no one.

The pace is intense and only increases its tempo as the plot unravels. It is bone-chilling for the simple reason that this is something that could happen and has happened dozens of times before. The characters feel real and their flaws only highlight their inner strength.

It would be criminal not to give this book a read and I can honestly say that this novel is one of my top reads for 2016.
