US alternative rock band Kongos to perform at Durban Botanic Gardens

The Kongos , a US alternative rock band will feature their new album, Egomaniac, at the Durban Botanic Gardens on election day

THE multi-platinum alternative rock band Kongos will appear for one performance only in KwaZulu-Natal as part of their highly-anticipated South African tour.

Kongos features Kongos brothers Johnny (accordion, keyboards, and vocals), Jesse (drums, percussion, and vocals), Daniel (guitar, vocals) and Dylan (bass guitar, lap slide guitar, vocals) and will perform at the Durban Botanical Gardens on Wednesday, August 3, with gates opening at 5pm.

The US alternative rockband composes and records in Phoenix, Arizona, where they have lived since 1996. However, they have a strong South African connection having spent their childhood in London and South Africa where they attended Johannesburg’s Seheti School.

They have an impressive following in this country with previous tours sold out in hours of being announced. Kongos’ new album, Egomaniac, was released last month with its first singleTake It from Me hitting the US charts. The band will be performing several songs from the new album as well as select cuts from their previous release at the concert which will also feature local supporting acts.

The band’s previous album Lunatic (2012) included I’m only Joking and Come with Me Now with the latter reaching double platinum status in both America and Canada.

Joining Kongos on the day is local melodic rock band aKING, while indie rock band December Streets will be wrapping up the trio with their signature upbeat new-wave sound.
