MIKE and Win Wheeler of Pinetown stunned the crowds yet again with their beautifully designed outfits at the Durban July at the weekend.
The couple have been creating outfits for the racing event for the past 20 years. This year the theme was Leader of the Pack and Mike, who designs and makes all of the outfits, chose the hyena pack for his inspiration. “In this animal family the female is the dominant player,” he said.
Mike dressed Win up to be the striking diva that she is and then opted to dress himself down to play the subservient role. He said the judges loved the idea and placed them in fifth position in the most striking couple category out of scores of hopeful contestants. “The atmosphere was so friendly and everyone was asking us to pose with them in our outfits, and we were being stopped every couple of metres,” laughed Mike.
“The whole event was very jolly, even though it was freezing cold. We have been going for the past 20 years and we know a lot of the fashionistas and it is such a social occasion meeting up with friends who all have a similar interest. The most exciting part is seeing their interpretations of the theme,” he said.
