Audition for new Theatre Club play
Auditions take place at Westville Theatre Club (adjacent to Westville Swimming Pool) on Thursday, 23 June from 6.30pm to 8pm and call-backs will be on Sunday, 26 June from 2pm to 4pm.
PLAYWRITER, Danielle Fleuriot, is excited to announce that she will be producing another play for the Westville Theatre Club this year.
This will be Danielle’s third consecutive year working with Westville Theatre Club. In 2014 she co-directed I’ve Only Got Ives for You with Jill Sysum and in 2015 she co-wrote and directed Prompt with Magdel Brand.
It seems Westville has been the stronghold regarding her passion for theatre. Danielle’s mother, Jackie Fleuriot, is a speech and drama teacher and encouraged Danielle to take drama as a subject at Westville Girls’ High School, where she had the privilege of being taught by Catherine Raw, after which she studied a Bachelor of Arts in speech and theatre education and a masters in communication at Lindenwood University, USA.
Upon Danielle’s return, she started Drama Dynamics, which is a speech and drama extra-mural for students of all ages.
While her job allows her to teach the subject she loves, Westville Theatre Club provides her with the creative licence to experiment with ideas, directing and playwriting. Danielle said she is equally passionate about both.
“I absolutely love working with this club and I believe they are a creative building block for the community,” said Danielle.
Danielle’s new play, An Evening of Signs, is comprised of three one-act plays (Sign In, Sign Up and Sign Out) which link together. The show is an interactive comedy filled with audience participation, improvisation and lots of banter.
The story is centred around an eccentric game show called ‘Who Knows?’, a show where peculiar things are asked and even weirder things are answered.
Danielle is looking for confident, bubbly and courageous actors/actresses (ages 16 and up) to take the stage. Please note that regardless of the level of experience, there are a number of smaller, entertaining roles to fill.
Danielle encourages prepared, comedic monologues (one to two minutes) to be performed during auditions. However, she will also have cold readings available.
