Fabulous reads – Witchy tale will leave you spellbound

Book review - Firewalker by Josephine Angelini.

Firewalker (Worldwalker #2), Josephine Angelini, Pan Macmillan, ISBN: 9781 4472 60851

LILY and Rowan travel back to her version of the world and she wakes up to find herself covered in third degree burns and wrapped up in bandages tighter than a mummy.

She is a witch and Rowan is her boyfriend and magical mechanic, a person that she allows to harness her powers to become a super-strengthened warrior.

Back in her world, Lily is in recovery from her third-degree burns, faced with an overbearing FBI officer demanding to know her whereabouts for the past three months, and the impending arrival of her return to her normal high school life.

Over and above this list, she still worries about the mess left behind in the previous world, a version similar to ours but magic reigns supreme and technology never existed. In that world, her doppelgänger, Lilian, is queen and is hell-bent on wiping out the scientists. Lilian needs Lily’s help for her plans to succeed and plots a way to force her to return to the magically-charged world.

The book follows both Lily and Lilian on their quest to help fix a world that is on the brink of destruction, and only one of the two has the power to create a possible positive outcome.

Besides a beautiful cover, the young adult-targeted book is a wonderfully written and and filled with romance, magic, conflict and a touch of humour.

The universe, characters and powers that Josephine Angelini has created are awe-inspiring and intriguing, yet something about this book made it feel more like a filler between Trial By Fire (book one) and the final book in the trilogy, Witch’s Pyre. Despite this, it was an immensely exciting read and will surely leave you on your toes, eager to see how Lily will confront the startling discovery she makes at the end of this spellbinding novel.
