SEARCHING for something to do at the weekend. Here’s a list of events that are happening in the Highway area, as well as events that are worth a ittle drive to.

WINSTON Park Guardians will host an Autumn Night Run/Walk at Gillitts Squash Club on Friday, 13 May at 6.30pm. The start and finish will be at Gillitts Squash Club in Winston Park for the 5km and 10km routes.There will be water tables on both routes, a deejay and entertainment after the race, food and drinks on sale as well as a kiddies’ zone. This is a fundraising initiative by the Winston Park Guardians to raise funds to purchase essential items and provide a better service to combat and prevent crime in the Winston Park area.

THE Highway Art Group’s mini exhibition will be at the Watercrest Mall from 13 to 15 May. The paintings are in all mediums and for sale below R800. Contact Irma on 082 338 8876 or 031 266 2468.

KEARSNEY College in Botha’s Hill will host the country’s top tennis schools in a three-day invitation festival this weekend, 13 to 15 May. The 56 competitors will play on courts at Kearsney College, Highbury Preparatory and St Mary’s DSG schools.

GLENPARK Neighbourhood Watch will hold a family fun day at the Clover Crescent Park on Saturday, 14 May from 1pm. There will be lots of activities and fun for the children. Contact Sharman Collins on 082 217 6644.

SEVEN first teams will battle it out for the coveted Highway regional title in the final in the series of regional tournaments of the SPAR KZN Schoolgirls’ Hockey Challenge at Thomas More College in Kloof on Sunday, 15 May. Participating schools in this regional are Gelofte, Hillcrest High, St Mary’s DSG, Westville Girls’ High School, Curro Hillcrest, Kloof High and Thomas More College.

WORTH THE DISTANCE

FORGIVENESS will be the focus of a discussion by Mahatma Das at a lecture at the Kendra Hall, 5 John Zikhali Road, on Friday, 13 May, at 7pm. Das, a Vedic scholar from India, was born in America, and is a senior preacher of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness, having travelled the world delivering various seminars and workshops to both corporate and educational institutions on relevant day to day topics. He will try to unpack the concept of Transformation Through Forgiveness. Admission is free and a free Vedic vegetarian dinner will be served. Safe parking is available at the Kendra premises. AGLOW International Fellowship for Women will meet at Durban Child and Youth Care Centre (Durban Children’s Home), Kildare Road, Glenwood, on Saturday, 14 May at 9am for 9.30am. Enjoy a high tea and a good speaker. Contact Margaret on 071 606 0065.
