Just Friends and poets for Playhouse Sundowners

Start your weekend the entertaining way at The Playhouse Company.

KWAMASHU band, Just Friends, are the featured musical act in The Playhouse Company’s Sundowners concert on Friday, 1 April in The Playhouse foyer from 5pm and entry is free.

Just Friends was formed in 2014 to introduce African jazz to the township and to teach young people to play instruments to keep them away from crime and drugs.

The band is made up of Bernard Mndaweni on bass guitar, Khaya Dlamini on saxophone, Eric Duma on trumpet, Wake Mahlobo on drums and Lindelani Mathonsi on piano.

The band has performed in various venues around the Durban area and play African jazz, maskanda, mbaqanga and other musical styles.

Also on the programme for the evening is the enormously popular poets’ line-up. Poets, Aphiwe Boiboi, Tulile Siguca, Flintsky and Zewande BK Bhengu (who is from Johannesburg), will perform their own original works for always-enthusiastic Sundowners audiences.

So start your weekend the entertaining way at The Playhouse Company. The Playhouse coffee shop and The Playhouse bar will both be open drinks and light meals. Discounted parking will be available at The Royal Hotel Parkade and The Albany Hotel Parkade. Free Wi-Fi will be available in The Playhouse foyer.
