Musical fundraiser to rock Highway

Curro High School and two local artists will host a magical musical fundraiser for the Siyajabla Centre on 17 March.

CURRO High School will be host a concert on Thursday, 17 March at 7pm to raise funds for the Siyajabula Centre for abandoned and orphaned children.

The concert will feature two local artists, Annalie Herbst-van Rooyen – an opera singer – and Ct Filip Kormuth – a concert pianist and composer. Curro’s choir and soloist will also be performing as well as marimba bands.

The Siyajabula Centre is situated in Molweni in upper Highway and is home to 37 abandoned or orphaned children. Siyajabula has been in existence in various forms since 1996.

“Eunice Mweli was teaching at a local primary school and took in a set of abandoned twins who one day were simply never collected from school. From there, while working closely with local social workers, numbers grew organically. Over the years, various friends from the local community have rallied around Eunice to assist her. A small house has been built and various projects undertaken, but the centre is still in need of funds,” said Kormuth, a performer at the event.

Donations of all sorts are most welcome and anything that the orphanage won’t use will go on sale at a bi-monthly pensioner day sale outside Botha’s Hill SPAR. The proceeds from this concert will be used to purchase food, nappies, formula, school uniforms and other necessities. The tickets are R80 per adult and R60 for pensioners and children under 12.
