Woman attacked on the N3

A good partnership between Mobi Claw, Camperdown SAPS, Westville SAPS and Pavilion security led to an arrest of a 23-year-old man who attacked a woman on the N3.

A MAN was arrested for attacking a woman whose car broke down on the N3 off-ramp to the Pavilion on Wednesday morning.

According to Westville SAPS communications officer, Cpt Elizabeth Squires, the woman was waiting for her son to come and assist her.

“As the son was driving up to her, he noticed a man attacking her through the window, trying to steal from her. Her son had subscribed to Mobi Claw, a new app that sends a panic signal to a controller, who sends it to emergency services to your location.

“Mobi Claw got hold of the SAPS and they were mobilised to the scene.”

Squires said a patrolling security van and staff from Thompsons Security, Nkosi’thethile (contracted to the Pavilion) saw what was happening and ran to help. “Seconds later, a passing vehicle from Camperdown SAPS passed the scene, stopped and assisted in the arrest. Seconds after that, Westville SAPS sector members arrived and took the man into custody,” she said.

ER24 paramedics were called to the scene to attend to the woman’s injuries, which were fortunately not too serious.

“This is again shows how partnership works. Very well done to the security officers, SAPS Camperdown and Westville,” added Squires.

The 23-year-old man was charged with attempted robbery.
