Celebrate being a ‘man’ this Movember

An exciting opportunity for dads to spend some quality time with their sons.

THE Highway Hospice announced the launch of another exciting event for its fundraising calendar in what will become ‘Durban’s biggest campout’.

The Dads and Lads Campout will be held on Saturday, 21 November at the College Rovers rugby fields.

John Olds, Highway Hospice fundraising manager, said they are expecting dads and lads to pile in for a safe and unique night out to celebrate being ‘men’.

This exciting campout will take place during November, which has become an awareness month for men’s health and related illness. Highway Hospice provides care for the terminally ill while celebrating the lives of their patients before imminent death.

Olds said one of their patients’ most common regrets is not having spent enough quality or quantity time with their loved ones. “We thought this was an ideal platform to promote our cause and those healthy relationships. People are invited to gather a team of campers and book their space on the Hospice website, www.hospice.co.za.

“There is a facility to book a block to camp together, and people are encouraged to make the most of the evening with friends.

There will be inflatables for children and everyone will be challenged to all kinds of skills challenges or sports. There will be catered food and beverages for young and old with live music to top it all off.

Gates will open at 2pm for ticket sales and setup, closing for vehicle access at 5pm for safety.

According to Olds, there will be no rush to knock down early in the morning as they will encourage the attendees to walk, swim, run or cycle on the beach. “The campout is all about having fun with the children,” he said.

It will cost R50 per tent and R50 per camper, with a maximum of four campers per tent. There are a limited number of tents which can be hired from Highway Hospice should you not have one. Contact Olds on 031 208 6110 or visit www.hospice.co.za to join in.
