Learn about the life of Yogananda

Funds raised at the screening of a documentary will be used to build an ashram.

A DOCUMENTARY entitled, Awake – the life of Yogananda will be screened at iZulu Theatre, Sibaya on 2 and 3 September at 8pm. This is an NPO project and all the proceeds will be used to build an ashram.

Hindu mystic, Paramahansa Yogananda, brought yoga to the west in 1920 and authored the spiritual classic, Autobiography of a Yogi. By personalising his own quest for enlightenment and sharing his struggles along the path, Yogananda made ancient Vedic teachings accessible to a modern audience. Known as the ‘Father of Yoga’ in the West, he attracted countless followers in his day.

Filmed over three years with the interaction between yoga, modern and ancient, East and West, the documentary also explores why millions today have turned their attention inward, bucking the temptations of the material world in the pursuit of self-realisation.
