Enchanted Playground features magic, music and lights

Carnival characters weave their magic and music and lights combine for a sensory overload at the Enchanted Playground at Moses Mabhida People’s Park East on Saturday, 13 and Sunday, 14 June.

COMBINE the excitement of a full-scale funfair with some of South Africa’s best music and you’ve got The Enchanted Playground.

This heady two-day music festival, a first for South Africa, comes to Moses Mabhida People’s Park East in Durban on Saturday, 13 June and Sunday, 14 June.

Inspired by the Electric Daisy Carnival in Las Vegas and New York, one of the most successful electronic dance music events in the world, The Enchanted Playground will feature top locals bands and deejays alongside a full-scale funfair featuring around 20 rides.

A giant ferris wheel will be the backdrop to the stage, which on Saturday will feature sizzling South African bands Freshly Ground, Gangs of Ballet and Watershed, followed by top house deejays, Roger Goode and Pascal and Pearce.

On Sunday, the spotlight falls on some of the country’s hottest acts, Black Motion, the Dream Team and Cassper Nyovest.

Organised by Durban’s own events promoter and nightclub owner, Kgolo Temba, music promoter and festival organiser, Lee Govender, and international deejay and event manager, Martin McHale, The Enchanted Playground promises Durban a weekend to remember.

Gates open at noon on Saturday for an afternoon of hot sounds from Durban’s own dance masters. Refreshments stands, bars and foods stalls will be in operation throughout the day, but families are invited to take along their picnic baskets before 4pm. Once the sun goes down, deejay duo Pascal and Pearce will set the night alight before giving the decks to one of South Africa’s all-time favourite deejays, Roger Goode.

On Sunday, gates open at noon for an over-18 music explosion of some of the country’s favourite hip-hop and deep house artists. Joining Cassper, Black Motion and KO are Dream Team, WTF, Kingsfiso, Sonic, Benny, Feel, Chynaman, Meech, Nag, Og and Jnr B and Jnr De Rocka.

Expect the unexpected as carnival characters weave their magic and music and lights combine for a sensory overload.
