Italian flair for fashion and food

ITALIAN elegance debuts in uMhlanga in a stylish feast of fashion and food as L’Aperitivo Venue, in association with Fashion Nanny, hosts ‘Aperitivo e Moda’: a glorious evening showcasing delectable haute couture fashion with Italian canapés on Friday, 17 April from 7.30pm.

As we transition from summer to autumn, the al fresco Aurora Drive courtyard piazza provides the perfect backdrop for an evening fashion show to give you a sneak preview of international colours, lines and trends, with a special emphasis on beautifully-crafted, bespoke Italian shoes.

L’Aperitivio’s Cecilia Di Cecco has collaborated with Fashion Nanny’s Sabrina Maingard to create an event which celebrates fabulous local fashion, Italian shoes and great food.

Sabrina, an acclaimed fashion and style motivator, has gathered an eclectic mix of ‘creatives’ for their first venture together. Zama Mathe of Zarth Design, whose garments fuse Italian influences with a distinctly African look; W9Apparel, the brainchild of Claire Hojem Mackay, who has worked extensively internationally and has returned to add her voice in to the local fashion scene; Lauren Judith-Anne, a emerging designer from DUT who won the DUT Technical award last year and focuses on bridal and matric dancewear; and Mme Bespoke – a range of custom made garments which are inspired by ethnic prints, vivid textures and colours.

The cherry on the top is the inclusion of Aliverti shoes – a range of limited-edition, carefully-designed and masterfully-crafted footwear which brings Italian quality and fashion to the streets of Durban. What gives this range the edge is their comfort and affordability. Frederico Aliverti is an Italian shoe designer based in Cape Town, who will be in uMhlanga to talk about shoe trends and fashions.

These garments and shoes will be paired in a fashion show with hair styled by Kimmie from Lewis & Staychev Style Bar; make-up by Make Up The College, and accessories by Lisa Raleigh’s The Noble Collection. Vocalist Cassie Rae Moore will sing Italian-styled 50s-era classic numbers.

It is a mission of Cecilia to introduce Italian delicacies into the South African palette, and to this end she has created a range of deli-style snacks and dinner party finger-food.

L’Aperitivo Venue is located between Palm Boulevard and Aurora Drive on Umhlanga Ridge. Tickets, which cost R250 each, include a welcome cocktail, Italian canapés and the fashion show. There will be a cash bar. For ticket bookings contact 072 947 3804.
