Get up close and personal with Barry Thomson

Barry Thomson performs songs from artists who inspired him.

GUITAR maestro, Barry Thomson, gets ‘Up Close and Personal’ at the Westville Old Boys Hall at the Westville Country Club on Sunday, 5 April.

Thomson takes to the stage in an ‘unplugged’ salute to artists who have had a direct influence on his life – musically and personally.

“It’s a gentle, intimate show. I have chosen songs that are instantly recognisable hits, and some that are not, but they all have musical or lyrical worth. The audience, hopefully, will get a chance to know a little more about me, other than seeing me as an all-out rock guitarist,” said Thomson.

His musical menu includes many of the songs from his CD. It features the gentler side of artists such as Eric Clapton, Mark Knopfler, Neil Young, The Eagles, Neil Diamond and Jethro Tull. There is also a tribute to the ‘Sugar Man’ – Rodriguez. The show also features some of Barry’s original songs, including Take it in My Stride and Walk a Mile.

“It’s not a show really. It’s about me and a bunch of people sharing an evening of good music together. And that’s the word: ‘together’,” said Thomson.

There are two shows on Sunday, 5 April at 2.30pm and 7pm. The venue opens 90 minutes before the show for a meal.

Tickets cost R120 each. Westville Country Club members and pensioners pay R100 each. Book through Computicket or contact Roland on 082 499 8636 or roland@stansell.za.net.

There is a meal option from the club at R50 each, starters and puddings may be added on as extras. Full bar and catering by The Venue.

Secure parking available at 1 Link Road, Westville. Booking is essential. No alcohol or food may be brought onto the premises.
