Celebrate the arts

Get down to Hillcrest High School for its annual Celebrate the Arts event.

HILLCREST High School is hosting its second Celebrating the Arts on Friday 29 and Saturday 30 August at its campus in Shortlands Avenue in Hillcrest.

A variety of talented artists will display their work over the two days, from painters and sculptors to mosaic and stained glass artists as well as exquisite works from the Quilters’ Guild. Pupils from several local primary schools will showcase their talents in the art competition entitled, These are a few of my favourite things.

Buskers, musicians and choirs will entertain guests over the two days.

The school’s popular steel drum band will perform on Friday at 5pm. Refreshments and light meals will be available throughout the event with an International Food Fair on the Saturday where guests can sample cuisine from six different countries.

Also on Saturday, demonstrations in Innovative Cake Icing by the talented Dawn Booth will be held at 9.30am and 11.30am, while renowned floral artists, Althea Higham and Jane Whitby will demonstrate Celebratory Floral Table Decor at 10.30am and 2pm. The cost to attend these demonstrations is R50 each and booking is essential.

The event runs from 4pm to 9pm on Friday and 9am to 6pm on Saturday.
