Outdoor life

Durban is all about Alfresco living so it’s as important to style your outdoor living area as beautifully as the inside of your home. Keep the display on your patio coffee table simple yet practical with items that serve a purpose and look stylish. By simply adding some greenery, like Ruscus leaves, into a clear vase you can create an airy look. Items like matches to light candles or the braai, keys for the storeroom and other bits and bobs can be stored in a pretty box to keep them out of sight. Include some coffee table books for sunny afternoon reading and a lantern for lighting. Make your own tabletop fire bowl to add to the ambience.

Personal stylishness

The focus of any living room is usually on the two biggest pieces of furniture- the sofa and coffee table. This is why it’s important to take time to decorate this area in your personal style. Use the coffee table to display your favourite items, souvenirs of travels, interesting vintage store buys as well as that on-trend item that you can’t resist. Trays are all the rage so look for textured trays that you can group and arrange your items upon – rectangular trays allow for easier displays. Include decorative accents that spark conversation like photographs in standing frames, or a small vase of fresh flowers which always enhances the feminine touch. Trays also make it simpler to clear the table of items when needing to clean the surface of the tabletop.

Bedside manner

Regardless of what your bedroom features, create a sense of continuity by coordinating accessories that will combine with your décor, cushions or linen. Considering the size and shape of your nightstand, choose items in different shapes and heights and in shades that will complement or contrast your colour scheme. Items like lamps, clocks, trinket boxes, photo frames, small vases or pot plants and indulge in a scented candle in a fragrance conductive to sleep. Choose a lamp that will add height but not take over the tabletop. Stack any bedside books horizontally to form a shelf to place further smaller items on.
