Tour Durban team event offers up super prizes

Road riders in the 110km event now also have an extra incentive to enter a team competition.

THIS year’s aQuellé Tour Durban offers a new challenge that will see clubs, schools, corporate teams and groups of friends face off for bragging rights in the new Gooderson Leisure Team Competition.

Road riders have a choice of three distances – 110km, 42km and 28km – on May 14, while the mountain bikers have a choice of 40km, 20km and 10km in the aQuellé Tour Durban MTB presented by Cycle Lab on May 13.

However, road riders in the 110km event now also have an extra incentive to enter with the news that the Gooderson Leisure Team Competition will give the riders in the long event an opportunity to represent their club, school, corporate team or even just join up with a bunch of friends and have a friendly challenge against rivals.

There is no entry fee to enter a team, but only riders who have been entered and are paid up to take part in the 110km Road Race will be allowed to take part in the team competition.

Each team must consist of five or six team members, and the times for teams will be taken on the fifth rider to cross the line, so there is sure to be some interesting tactics at play as team members will have to decide whether to chase personal glory by racing up the road, or play the team game and look after weaker riders.

While the top male, female and mixed teams – mixed teams need to have at least two female members entered and at least one female finish the race – will be recognised, the main prize for the team competition will take the form of a generous lucky draw prize from Gooderson Leisure.

All six members of the lucky team drawn from all team entries will each win a voucher for one family room accommodating two adults and two children for two nights (including breakfast) at Gooderson Monks Cowl Golf Resort.

The race registration for all aQuellé Tour Durban events will take place at Cycle Lab at Cornubia Mall on Friday, May 12 and Saturday, May 13.
