WBHS slides to 52-7 victory

The local rugga team were ecstatic to start the season off on such a high note.

WESTVILLE Boys’ High School kicked off its rugby season with a convincing 52-7 win against DHS.

On an absolute scorcher of a day, the Westville 1st XV brought much joy to their supporters with a good first performance.

The start didn’t go to script with DHS scoring a converted try very early on in the game.

The Griffins didn’t panic as, four minutes later, the home side’s winger, Bayanda Ngubane, scored a try. Tiaan Kriek had a terrific day with the boot and slotted his first of many conversions for the day.

Six minutes later, Westville scored again, this time through Gcino Mbatha. Another two tries were scored before half-time as Bayanda Ngubane touched down for his second and the third from Stefan Van der Watt. Westville went into the half time with a lead of 28-7.

The second half had more of the same as Westville continued to attack relentlessly and kept DHS from adding to the scoreboard.

Second-half tries were scored by Matt Caldecott, Bryce Calvert, Mambo Mkhize and Gcino Mdletshe.
